Altertimeline uses a simple three-step process to transform your "What if" questions into detailed alternate timelines. This guide walks you through each step and explains what happens behind the scenes.

Step 1: Enter a Scenario

The first step is to provide your "What if" question. This is where your imagination takes the lead.

What Makes a Good Scenario?

A good scenario is any "What if" question that interests you. Here are some examples across different categories:

Historical Scenarios:

How to Write Your Scenario

When entering your scenario, be as specific as possible:

  • Be Clear — State your "What if" question clearly. The AI works best when it understands exactly what you're asking.
  • Add Context — If helpful, provide a bit of background. For example: "What if the printing press was invented 200 years earlier?" gives more context than just "What if printing?"
  • Stay Focused — One main scenario works better than multiple branching questions. Focus on one pivotal change.
  • Be Creative — Don't limit yourself to realistic scenarios. The platform thrives on imaginative "what ifs" that spark curiosity.

Character Limit

You have up to 200 characters to describe your scenario. This is enough space to clearly state your "What if" question with some context.

Step 2: AI Generates Timeline

Once you submit your scenario, Altertimeline's AI analyzes your question and generates a detailed alternate timeline. This is where the magic happens.

The AI generates a comprehensive alternate timeline that shows:

This section describes what happens right after your scenario occurs.
